BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Branch County got some much needed rain on Sunday but it was likely not enough to alleviate the dry conditions.
After going 22 days without measuring any rain, the M.S.U. Extension Service weather station at the Bloom Dairy Farm recorded 18-hundredths of an inch on Sunday.
It was the first rainfall measurement at that location since 22-hundredths was recorded on May 19.
While some areas got rain on June 3, nothing was measured that day at the M.S.U. Extension weather station.
It was estimated by the National Weather Service at 8:00 p.m. Sunday night that about a quarter inch of rain fell around the Branch County area.
Heavier amounts were measured to the south. There were reports of over an inch of rain in Lima, Ohio and in other areas to the south of there.
The National Drought Monitor last Thursday reported that most of the Lower Peninsula including all of Branch County was abnormally dry.
The far southern part of Hillsdale County was considered to be in a moderate drought. The National Weather Service is forecasting more showers for the area on Tuesday and Tuesday night.
