COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners formally approved a $250,000 cash offer from a local businessman on Tuesday to buy the old Lakeland Elementary School from the county.
Wade Longstreet is buying the building. He said a couple of weeks ago he was mulling some ideas but had not made a final determination on what it will be used for.
Coldwater Community Schools sold the building and land to Branch County in May of 2021 for $150,000.
The property at 519 Otis Road in Ovid Township was used for one of the five towers that were installed as part of a $9.3 million Branch County 911 project which was designed to improve communications between various emergency, police and fire agencies in the county.
The county is keeping five acres for the tower and are selling 35 acres to Longstreet.
The old Lakeland School south of Coldwater closed in April of 2021 following almost 60 years of service after the new fourth and fifth grade Lakeland School was built on Western Avenue in Coldwater.
