Thomas Joseph Platt, Jr., 79, of Coldwater, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023, at home.
Interment with military honors will be held Friday June 23, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Thomas was born September 1, 1943, in Detroit, MI to Thomas and Ilah (Dettloff) Platt. He married Sharon Evans November 24, 1972, in Cumberland, MD. Tom was a United States Marine, serving honorably from 1960-1964.
Mr. Platt was a licensed master plumber, being self-employed and then working many years for the State of Michigan, including several years at Jackson Prison and Florence Crane Correctional Facility. For many years, Tom and his family lived in Hillman, MI where he owned and operated a plumbing, heating, and bath boutique. He retired in 2000, and in 2004 went to Iraq for a short time as an Army Plumbing Contractor.
Tom was a member of the American Legion and VFW where he served as commander. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, golfing, playing cards, and spending time with friends. He was a devoted husband and father.
Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sharon; his sons Joseph Platt of Coldwater, Jeffrey Platt of Coldwater, and Matthew Platt of Coldwater; his brother Leon Platt of Florida; his grandchildren Dillen Platt, Christopher Platt, and Michael Platt. He was preceded in death by his sister Gayle McCaleb. He is deeply missed by his family.
