COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – You may have noticed some construction activity going on at the Branch County Memorial Airport.
After numerous funding delays due to government red tape and supply chain issues, work on the rehabilitation of a taxiway and the expansion of an fuel access apron is finally underway.
Bids for the project were opened just over a year ago. The Branch County Board of Commissioners approved plans for the renovation in July of 2021.
Airport Manager Joe Best said at that time the project would improve safety at the airport.
The federal government is picking up 90 percent of the total costs which came out to about $1-point-2 million through a grant.
Branch County and MDOT are each paying five percent of the costs.
It’s estimated the work will take about three weeks.
I can tell you that this is going on longer then 3 weeks and most likely over budget. More money wasted as usage of the airport has increased very little since the welcome terminal was built.
