**This story contains corrected information** COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Downtown Development Authority Board voted on Wednesday morning to contribute $100,000 to the grant application process for the proposed US-12 Corridor Enhancement Plan in the downtown area.
It dovetailed action by the Coldwater City Council when they decided to re-apply for a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation of $700,000.
The M.E.D.C. requires a 50 percent match for the RAP 2.0 grant.
The M.E.D.C. also requires that applicants demonstrate a financial commitment to receive funding.
The City was turned down last year for a $1 million grant. Economic Development Coordinator Lisa Miller said they are asking for less this time.
She pointed out how competitive the grant program is.
The local match would be funded by utilizing future cannabis tax revenue funds and existing fund balance contributions from the city.
Manager Keith Baker pointed out during Monday’s City Council meeting it will be a long time before everything is finalized if the city proceeds with the project which would run from the Four Corners Park west to North Hanchett Street.
