COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Garrett Johns was announced as being the Most Valuable Player for the Coldwater Cardinals baseball team on Tuesday during the team’s post season awards banquet.
Johns also received the Most Valuable Defensive Player Award and shared the Best Teammate Award with Eddie Pool.
Brady Massey won the Leading Hitter Award with his season average of .394 and was named the Most Valuable Offensive Player.
Cameron Heinemann was the Most Valuable Pitcher, Owen Tappenden and Ian Stough were the Most Improved Players while the Mr. Hustle Award was shared by Jack Ruden and Drake Thornton.
Cameron Heineman and Massey earned All-Interstate 8 Conference first team honors while Johns and Cole Heinemann earned honorable mentions.
Cameron Heineman, Johns, Massey and Thornton earned All District honors from the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association.
Earning Interstate 8 Academic All-Conference honors were Lucas Wischmeyer, Stough, Ruden, Landon Auble and Owen Tappenden.
Wischmeyer and Stough were Academic All-District. Wischmeyer also earned Regional and State All-Academic honors from the M.H.S.B.C.A..
The Cardinals finished 19-22. They won their Southern Michigan Bank and Trust sponsored tournament and captured the program’s first district title in seven years.
