Dorothy Jane Smoker, 93, of Bronson, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Grand Vista Assisted Living in Coldwater, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, July12, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Assumption Church, Bronson with Rev. Fr. Dan Hyman officiating. Interment will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.., with the rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson.
She was born August 13, 1929 to Vitalis and Mary (Kibiloski) Losinski in Bronson, MI. On May14, 1955, Dorothy married Francis “Shon” Smoker in Bronson and he preceded her in death on July 24, 2016.
Dorothy began her working career with Bronson Reel where she was employed for 20 years, but ultimately found her true calling in childcare caring for many children of Branch County for over 20 years. She was a faithful member of St. Mary of Assumption Church.
She enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers and held a passion for gardening, canning, and cooking. Dorothy liked puzzles, playing bingo and bunco, but what she loved above all else was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
Dorothy leaves behind her children, Annette (Terry) Szafranski of Coldwater, Rick (Millie) Smoker of Bronson, Audrey Czajkowski of Coldwater, Larry (Marcy) Smoker of Bronson, her grandchildren Joe (Kayla) Shaw, Austin (Alayna) Szafranski, Evan (Bekah) Szafranski, Abby (Jade Bosworth) Szafranski, Lauren (Travis) McKenna, Cody Smoker, Matthew Smoker, Nate (Hayley) Smoker, Michael Czajkowski, Katie Czajkowski, her great grandchildren Ellie Shaw, Emilia Szafranski, Rosie Szafranski, Onnalee Smoker, Brecken Smoker, Claire Szafranski, her sister-in-law Barbara Losinski, many loving nieces and nephews and several of her daycare “children.”
In addition to her husband Shon, she was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Bernard Losinski, Raymond Losinski, Virginia Herman, Edna Dale, Vitalis “Junior” Losinski and her great grandson Owen Szafranski.
Memorial donations are suggested to St. Mary’s Assumption School.
