Eugene F. “Dude” Smoker, 92, of Colon, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at his home.
A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Assumption Church with Rev. Fr. Dan Hyman officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 10, 2023, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., with the rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson.
Eugene was born August 26, 1930, in Bronson, MI to Hewitt & Verna (Koscielny) Smoker. He married Roberta German, together they had 9 children and later divorced. He married Judith C. (Fifer) Burch on September 1, 1979.
Dude worked his entire career at LA Darling and Douglas Autotech. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church where he served with the 4th Degree, Knights of Columbus and as past Grand Knight. He belonged to the UCT and was an avid Notre Dame fan.
Dude enjoyed the outdoors, doing yard work and gardening. He liked to spend time with his family and cook together with his wife.
Dude is survived by his wife Judy; his children Christine (Dick) Cary of Bronson, Joan (Dave) Hurley of Bronson, Lu Ann (Doug) Nelson of Adrian, Kevin “Spanky” Smoker of Bronson, Pam (Dennis) Miller of LaGrange, IN, Ken (Ann) Smoker of Coldwater, Mick Smoker of Bronson, his stepchildren Deb (Mark) Lane of Coldwater, Jerry Burch of Coldwater; his grandchildren Jennifer (Chris) Zepke, Betsy (Jeff) Feinberg, Lori (Eddie) Tabor, Kristopher (April) Hurley, Kelly (Thomas Hart) Hurley, Dana (Joel) Eisinger, Grant Nelson, Matthew (Skye) Miller, Katelyn (Brett) Yoder, Carlee (Sawyer Maddox) Smoker, Brent Smoker, Emilee Smoker, Tyler (Darcy) Smoker, Brooke (Mykal) Kline, his step grandchildren Danielle Duke, Dustin Corwin, Nick Burch, Corey Burch; 32 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren.
Dude was preceded in death by his first wife Bert Smoker; his brothers John, Edwin and Daniel Smoker; sisters Virginia Palczynski, Hattie Stevens, Delphine Kibiloski, Sylvia Herman; infant sons Donald and Joseph Smoker, his grandson Mickenzie Smoker and his stepdaughter in law Lana Burch.
Donations may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church, Bronson.
