Christine Lynn Barry, 45, of Quincy received her angel wings Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 3:41 p.m. after a gentle kiss on her forehead from her loving father, Ted May and surrounded by her family at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital after a courageous eight year battle with cancer.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Quincy High School Gymnasium with Pastor Mark Case officiating. It is suggested by family that anyone attending wear BarryStrong clothing or her favorite color, blue.
Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Quincy.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, July 14 at Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Quincy and again from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the celebration at the school Saturday.
Christine was born May 19, 1978 in Grayling, Michigan to Ted May and Sharon (Hildebrand). She attended Johannesburg-Lewiston High School and graduated in 1996.
She was a stand-out athlete excelling in basketball, softball, and volleyball. She continued her education and athletic career for two years at Alpena Community College. She completed her college basketball career and graduated with honors from Olivet College with her Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
She began her Special Education Teaching Career at the Manor in Jonesville. She also went on to teach at Albion, Bronson, and finished her teaching career at Quincy High School.
Throughout her career at Quincy, she was involved with many activities and clubs. She was a Class Advisor for the Class of 2025 and went on to create a Reading/Book Club called the Next Chapter. She was also a mentor teacher for new teachers entering their teaching careers. In 2016 she received the Special Education Teacher of the Year Award for Branch County. October 27, 2018 she was inducted into the Montmorency County Athletic Hall of Fame following her standout high school athletic career.
Christine’s hobbies and interests included watching her sons activities, working out, board games, her love of gnomes, relaxing by the pool, reading, and especially traveling with her husband while he pursued his career.
She met her beloved husband, Scott, at Olivet College the Fall of 1998 where they dated and later were married on October 19, 2002. They went on to expand their family having Cameron Matthew, April 29, 2006 and Alex Christopher, June 6, 2007 who still survive.
Following her teaching career, she established and successfully owned and operated the Barry’s Caddyshack where she was able to create a lasting impact in the Quincy Community and made so many friendships and bonds with the staff and customers.
In addition to her sons and Scott, she is survived by her father, Ted May of Lewiston, mother, Sharon (Hildebrand) of Wisconsin, Sister, Mandy (Jason) Schlafer of Wisconsin, brother-in-law Matthew (Erin) Barry of Quincy, Sister-in-Laws, Amy Adair of Quincy, Dawn (Kent) Hart of Detroit, and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Stan and Juanita Barry, and her nieces and nephews and extended family and friends; not to forget her beloved pets, Odie and Dante.
Christine was preceded in death by her sister, Rebecca (Becca) May which was her main inspiration in life and her reason for pursuing a special education teaching career.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the family to establish the Christine Barry Memorial College Fund.
