COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County 911 Central Dispatch will be replacing 20-year-old dispatch consoles and revamping the layout of its facility.
The Branch County Board of Commissioners voted during their Thursday work session to waive the county’s requirements for a formal bidding process, allowing Central Dispatch to acquire new consoles and anti-static carpeting from Xybix Systems at a cost of around $146,000.
At Wednesday’s 911 Board meeting, Director Bob Swick explained the need to move quickly:
Swick said that Xybix also submitted a quote for $31,000 to repair the existing consoles, with no guarantee for further repairs or parts availability given that they had been in service since 2003. He had been working on getting quotes on the project when the console failures occurred.
Xybix was the original vendor for the consoles at Branch County Central Dispatch, and they had recently completed an equipment overhaul at Hillsdale County Central Dispatch.
