BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – While it rained for the third straight Saturday and for the fourth straight weekend, it was a much needed rain as area agricultural interests continue to recover from dry conditions in May and June.
The M.S.U. Extension Service weather station at the Bloom Dairy Farm has measured 3.46 inches of rain since June 25. That includes 2.74 inches since the first of July through Saturday afternoon. The station measured 1.37 inches of rain between 11 p.m. and noon on Saturday.
There were reports of three inch rainfall measurements in Coldwater.
Most of Branch County is classified as in a “severe drought” according to the latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor which was issued last Thursday with the northern third listed as being in a “moderate drought.”
The first 15 days of July in Branch County has seen rain on seven days after there were just five days of rain in June.
