QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – A new Dean of Students was formally hired on Monday night by the Quincy Community School District Board of Education.
Mark DeMeuse comes to Quincy from Clearlake, Michigan where he previously served as a principal of the Francis Street Primary Elementary School.
He has also served as a Dean and Transportation Director during his time in education. In addition, DeMeuse was a police officer for 10 years.
DeMeuse will take over as the Quincy Dean of Students from Jim Lyon who retired after this past school year.
According to an agenda that was posted on the district’s web site before Monday’s meeting, the board was also scheduled to take formal action on the hiring of former Bronson Community Schools Ryan Elementary Principal Kristen Frisbie as the Quincy school district’s curriculum coordinator.
But the item was removed from the agenda before the start of the meeting. Quincy Superintendent Marc Kramer said it had become a hot button issue and at this point, the position was being tabled.
Frisbie stepped down as the Ryan Park Principal on April 14. Her departure came after some parents had been grumbling about conditions at the school. Minutes from the March Bronson School Board meeting indicated two parents expressed their concerns about what they felt were bullying, discipline and safety issues at Ryan Elementary.
Three audience members criticized Frisbie during public comments including a Ryan Elementary teacher. But former board member Jennifer Wortz said it was not right to discredit someone when they were not at the meeting to represent themselves adding that it was not fair and honest.
In other business, the Quincy School Board approved a bid of just over $165,000 from Excell Paving Plus of Coldwater for repaving of the bus garage and high school parking lots.
