BURR OAK, MI (WTVB) – Nearly a dozen fire departments had to be called late Thursday night and early Friday morning when a fire broke out in a downtown Burr Oak building and destroyed the newly opened It Takes A Village Diner.
The blaze at 217 East Third Street was reported sometime around midnight Thursday night and was not declared out until early Friday morning.
The fire reduced the building to a pile of rubble.
The Bronson Fire Department was among those called to the scene at 1:40 a.m.. The Three Rivers Commercial News reports they along with the Sturgis Fire Department responded with aerial units.
The newspaper also reported the building housed two upper-level apartment units and a office for Full Circle Home Health Care.
Fire officials say three persons who were in the apartment area at the time of the fire got out safely.
The cause of the fire as of Friday was not known. It Takes A Village Diner opened just under a year ago and had quickly become a gathering place in the Village of Burr Oak.
