COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Quincy area couple has made a $2,500 offer to buy a vacant lot owned by the City of Coldwater at 29 Lawton Avenue.
City Manager Keith Baker told the Coldwater City Council on Monday night that Ray and Jessica Tefft, through an LLC, have made the offer with plans to build a new single family residence on the site that at one time housed a family member.
Baker said the property has changed hands several times.
The now defunct Habitat for Humanity of Branch County bought the property at one time for $1,500.
The Council agreed with a motion made by Travis Machan that a house has to be built on the property within five years.
The lot is about 77 feet in width by 132 feet in depth and it’s felt the parcel is sufficiently sized for a new residential structure.
When public property is sold, the City Charter requires that the conveyance stays on the table for 30 days. During that time, other bids may be received and considered by the City Council.
The City Council place the Teftt’s purchase offer on the table for 30 days Monday night. The first meeting after the 30-day time period expires would be on Monday August 14, 2023.
