COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners will take up a request from several local citizens during their August 3 work session to consider a resolution that would declare Branch County as a “Constitutional County.”
Nearly 10 people spoke during Tuesday’s meeting as they urged the passage of a resolution that would be along the same lines as ones adopted in four other Michigan counties.
Commissioners have been hearing citizen requests for several months on Branch County becoming a Constitutional County with no discussion and no action being taken.
The effort to designate Branch County as a Constitutional County has been spearheaded by tougher gun control laws passed by majority Democrats in Lansing following mass shootings at Michigan State University and Oxford High School and protocols that were put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic.
There have been concerns from backers of the resolution about what is being taught to students in school.
Commission Chair Tim Stoll made the request to put the resolution on the agenda and asked County Administrator Bud Norman to put together a draft resolution.
Norman said four resolutions from St. Joseph, Tuscola, Ottawa and Livingston Counties have been shared with them.
Tim Stoll: I think that if you want to change this County, into a Constitutional County, it should be done the Democratic way, BY VOTE!, not because of a few un-happy people who don’t like the Red Flag laws , and a few other issues can’t have their own way.
I highly oppose pushing this issue, unless it is brought to a Vote.
Thank you for your time and help in this matter.

I couldn’t agree more Connie, there is a bigger agenda behind this and it is not for the good.
