BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Branch County continues to be abnormally dry according to the latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor which was released on Thursday.
The reports shows most of the lower peninsula remains in that category.
Moderate drought conditions continue in the the northern parts of Calhoun and Jackson Counties while severe drought conditions are being reported in the Manistee area.
The latest update did not include the heavy rain which fell on Wednesday.
Moderate and severe drought conditions were reported in Branch County earlier this month following two months of dry conditions.
The MSU Extension Service weather station at the Bloom Dairy Farm only measured 1.65 inches of rain in May and only 1.18 inches in June.
1.13 inches of rain fell from thunderstorms overnight Saturday, which brought the rainfall total for July at that location up to nearly 6.7 inches. That amount included 1.77 inches which fell during two rounds of severe storms on Wednesday.
