COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Following suggestions from Mayor Tom Kramer, the Coldwater Planning Commission voted Monday night to start the process of ending marijuana grow facilities in areas zoned D-2 heavy industry.
They approved a motion from Kramer that the city staff is to begin the process of eliminating special use permits for growth facilities in the industrial park with up to a year for it to take effect.
Kramer admitted it might have been a mistake.
Kramer said retail marijuana operations would not be affected.
He and City Attorney Megan Angell discussed having an ordinance take effect in September of 2024.
The process would include an ordinance being put together for a Planning Commission public hearing. The Planning Commission would then make a recommendation to the City Council.
Proposed changes to the City of Coldwater’s Adult Use Recreational Marijuana zoning ordinance were discussed for about 40 minutes during the Planning Commission meeting on March 8, 2023 but no formal action was taken at that time.
