COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Police have released additional details about Saturday afternoon’s stabbing which sent a Coldwater man to the hospital and led to the arrest of a Indiana man.
Police said on Monday morning a road rage incident led to the stabbing.
According to a news release issued by Coldwater Police, 38-year-old Adam Wallis of Marion, Indiana was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of up to 10-years in prison or a fine of $5,000, or both.
Wallis’ bond has been set at $50,000.
According to police, Wallis and the alleged 24-year-old victim began yelling at each other while travelling on U.S. 12 at about 2:39 p.m..
Wallis was the passenger in a Honda driven by his brother, while the alleged victim was driving a Chevrolet pickup.
Both vehicles stopped for a red light at the southbound ramps for I-69, when the altercation took place.
Police said that Wallis stabbed the victim in the chest and then they fought in the street. Wallis reportedly threw the knife into a grassy field and got back into his brother’s car.
The man who was stabbed said he thought Wallis was going to flee the scene, so he backed his pickup truck into the front of the Honda to prevent the suspect from leaving the scene.
According to police, Wallis and another man were in Coldwater visiting a marijuana dispensary prior to the altercation.
LifeCare Ambulance transported the man who was stabbed to Promedica Coldwater Regional Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and lodged at the Branch County Jail. Officers recovered the knife at the scene.
Coldwater Police were assisted at the scene by the Coldwater Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance, and the Branch County Sheriff’s Office.
Police are asking that anyone who witnessed the incident to call Sgt. Cody Longrey at (517) 278-4525.

There is LOTS missing from this police report. The 24 year old man with the truck, Tyler Simons, began swerving his truck into the Honda way before they stopped at the light. He was yelling obscenities at Adam Wallis and his brother, who had never seen Tyler before in their lives, telling them to pull over, giving them obscene gestures. Then Tyler got out of his truck and swung at Wallis who had also gotten out of his vehicle. This was not road rage. This was an assault. Tyler threw Adam to the ground and tried to gauge his eye out. Adam was taken to the hospital from the scene by ambulance. No mention of that here or anywhere. But before that happened, he was in their car trying to call 911, when Tyler got in his truck and rammed the Honda hard enough to TOTAL it. It’s at 911 Auto. Later that evening “stabbed’ Tyler showed up at Buffalo Wild Wings parking lot where the family was and threatened the driver and his 68 year old mother with bodily harm. The staff at Nirvana came out to see what was happening and mentioned that Tyler had been there all day harassing people. Not sure where the cops got the part about anyone visiting Coldwater to visit a marijuana dispensary. Someone is doing his best to make Tyler look innocent and Adam like a bad man. I encourage anyone to ask the police to see this alleged knife.
