BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The National Weather Service has issued a rare Excessive Heat Watch which in effect from Thursday morning through Thursday evening as dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 110 are possible.
This is only the fifth Excessive Heat Watch the National Weather Service office in northern Indiana has issued since 2011 and it is the first one to be issued in August.
Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
Residents are being asked to monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation.
Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
With the forecast calling for excessive heat and humidity, Bronson Community Schools Interim Superintendent Kate Wall has announced that a half day of classes will be held on Wednesday and that there will be no school on Thursday. There will be a full day of school on Friday with a delayed start as scheduled.
