COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Not only will the Branch County Sheriff’s Department get six additional road patrol deputies in the 2024 budget following Tuesday’s action by the Board of Commissioners, the department will also be getting security cameras and software for the animal control building, boat garage and maintenance building.
Commissioners approved a quote the Sheriff’s Department got from Advanced Satellite Communications of just under $17,000.
There is grant money available from Michigan Municipal Risk Management to pay for 50 percent of the cost. The County would be responsible for the other half which comes out to over $8,400. This would be paid from capital outlay.
The Sheriff’s Department requested the new cameras because the current camera system and software is inadequate to meet their security needs. They say they can no longer view the cameras over the internet or play back and record because Internet Explorer no longer supports their current software.
