PLAINWELL, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater outscored Plainwell 27-20 in the second half, thanks to three touchdown passes from freshman quarterback Dracyn Foster, but it was not enough as the Trojans held off the Cardinals 34-27 Thursday night at Plainwell High School’s Streidl Field.
The Trojans got off to a hot start in the first half. TD runs of 17 and 70 yards by Ryan McDaniel lifted Plainwell to a 14-0 halftime lead, which ballooned to 20-0 late in the third quarter. The Cardinal coaching staff brought in Foster to jump start the offense, and it worked: their first score came with sixteen seconds left in the frame, on 4-yard run by Drew Ennis.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, McDaniel ran for his third score of the night from 47 yards out. Foster responded with a 23-yard TD pass to Evan Porter with 8:52 left. Less than two minutes later, following a successful onside kick recovery, Foster connected on a 7-yard TD pass to fellow freshman Dayton Ennis. After a long quarterback keeper from Plainwell, Foster found Porter again for a 31-yard score with 3:34 left. Once Plainwell got the ball back, they were able to run out the clock.
With the loss, the Cardinals fell to 0-2 on the season. They will open up Interstate 8 play next Friday at Marshall.
