COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An issue has surfaced that is preventing the completion of security upgrades for the City of Coldwater and the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities
IT Director Pat Pool told the B.P.U. Board of Directors on Wednesday night that they engaged with American Municipal Power and Aspen Smart Networks to implement a network hardening project about a year ago.
While a majority of the project is done, Pool says unacceptably long outages would occur as resources were moved to the new networks.
The B.P.U. Board approved a change order for additional equipment and labor in order to finish the project.
Pool said it would have taken at least three weeks for internal IT staff to make the full transition under the old plan, assuming everything worked perfectly. Once the transition was started, some departments would lose access to critical resources like servers and printers until all moves were completed.
The original budget was just over $304,000. There was about $8,900 left before the change order was approved. The goal is to complete the transition by the end of the first quarter in 2024.
