BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The City of Bronson has issued a “scam alert” for a letter from the National Police Association which is asking for donations from local residents.
The city posted the entire letter on its Facebook page. Officials say the letter is not from the City of Bronson and that residents should not respond.
The letter asks not only for a donation but for the respondent to check a box on a reply form so that their name can be added to a “Quality of Life Policing” petition that would be turned into the Bronson City Council.
The letter goes on to say the ACLU, billionaire George Soros and other groups have spent millions of dollars to end quality of life policing and that the Bronson City Council needs to hear from citizens.
The National Police Association claims they are a nonprofit organization that supports law enforcement but questions have been raised in the past.
The Indianapolis Star published an article in March of 2019 which said at least four police departments in four states found the fund raising letters to be confusing and misleading.
