BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Following a request from Mayor Matt Watkins, the Bronson City Council discussed the possibility of a ordinance to allow the use of golf carts in the City of Bronson on Monday night.
Golf carts are currently allowed in the nearby communities of Union City, Quincy and Sturgis.
But Bronson Police Chief Stephen Johnson made it clear Monday night he does not want them.
Johnson said golf carts lack safety equipment.
While Council members had mixed opinions, Watkins felt citizens should have their say during a public hearing.
A consensus of Council member seemed to agree with Watkins.
Johnson said in his letter to the Council that if they allow golf carts, then a strong enforceable ordinance needs to be drafted and strictly adhered to. He also wanted a year-to-year review of the golf cart issue if the Council goes in that direction.
