COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A pair of Branch County Sheriff’s Department deputies have been honored with Life Saving awards for actions they took during a June incident.
According to a post on the Sheriff’s Department Facebook page, Deputies Kevin Butters and Michael Thyng were dispatched to what was described as a major medical call on June 18.
When they arrived, Butters and Thyng found an unconscious victim and from the large amount of blood loss determined the victim was in a life-or-death struggle.
They quickly applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. Learning the nearest ambulance was 20 to 30 minutes away, Butters and Thyng immediately loaded the victim into a patrol vehicle and while in route arranged a mutual location that was closer to the hospital to meet with the Ambulance.
At this location, the deputies assisted medics in stabilizing the victim to complete the transport.
