They will be honored on September 30 at the Farm to Fork Event.
Mathis has been a long time community leader and is credited with creating the Citizen of the Year award in 1981 while he was serving on the Village Council. After his lengthy service on the Village Council, Mathis is now a member of the Union City School Board.
He was teacher in Union City for 30 years. During that time, he promoted mandatory 40 hours community service for all graduating seniors and won the governors award for the program.
Hicks and Lynch operate Fortunate Farms. They have been active as part of the garden club that works to make the Union City community beautiful. They donated time, effort and flowers to the Union City Senior Center opening and the opening of the Dome.
Local persons over the age of 18 are selected in voting for the Union City Citizen of the Year honor every year. A resident can only be honored once.
The names of past Citizens of the Year are on a plaque at the Union City Village Office.
