BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget reported on Thursday that Branch County’s unemployment rate went down for the first time in three months in August to four-point-two percent after being at four-point-five percent in July.
The data showed that not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates went down in 16 of Michigan’s 17 labor market areas over the month.
Wayne Rourke from the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics said, “Michigan regional labor markets displayed typical seasonal rate declines in August. Employment and workforce levels rose in most regions over the year.”
The report went on to say 76 Michigan counties exhibited jobless rate declines between July and August while 68 counties displayed rate decreases over the past year.
Branch County’s unemployment rate was ranked 22nd in the state.
Unemployment rates went down in neighboring counties. The jobless rate in St. Joseph County dropped to four-point-five percent while it was down to four-point-six percent in Hillsdale County and four-point-eight percent in Calhoun County.
Michigan’s unemployment rate in August was at three-point-seven percent.
Unemployment rates around Michigan in August ranged from three percent in Livingston County to seven percent in Oscoda County.
