GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WTVB) – The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 951 announced today that negotiations are scheduled to start October 11 with Meijer for a new contract.
The union represents more than 28,000 workers in the State of Michigan.
A statement from the union said Meijer workers are demanding the strongest possible contract.
“As we begin negotiations, we have made it very clear to Meijer we want a strong contract for our members,” said John Cakmakci, UFCW 951 president. “Our members, as essential workers, have endured a lot over the past three years and believe it is now their turn to share in the healthy profits their employer recorded during, and following, the pandemic. Workers across the country, in a wide variety of industries, are taking a stand and demanding the wages, benefits, and working conditions they deserve, and our members are no exception.”
Union workers want significant wage increases, additional paid time off and an affordable medical plan.
Why would he say significant additional paid time off when they have gave up all the vacation time to meijer. Sounds like he is back tracking his words
