WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTVB) – All six Michigan Republicans in the U.S. House voted against a motion on Tuesday to declare the office of Speaker of the House of Representatives to be vacant.
That included local Congressman Tim Walberg who voted to keep Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House.
But McCarthy’s doom was sealed in the historic 216-210 vote to oust him as Speaker.
Eight Republicans joined all of the Democratic representatives in voting to take his gavel away.
Zeeland Republican Bill Huizenga said that this move is a mistake, and right now, the Lower Chamber is run by lions who just keep on eating trainers.
North Carolina Congressman Patrick McHenry is now Acting Speaker until a new Speaker election is held.
