COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The second of two suspects from Detroit who are charged with trying to smuggle drugs and smart phones into the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater has had their case bound over to Branch County Circuit Court.
28-year-old Adoreray Samone Bruce waived her Branch County District Court preliminary exam that was scheduled for Wednesday. A Circuit Court pre-trial conference is scheduled for October 16.
Co-defendant 59-year-old Edison William Terry waived his Branch County District Court preliminary exam last month. He has entered not guilty pleas to the charges and his final pre-trial hearing in Circuit Court is scheduled for October 23.
Bruce and Terry are each facing five charges. Branch County Prosecutors have charged both of them with delivery of controlled substances, conspiracy to commit delivery of a controlled substance, possession of meth, attempted bringing contraband into a prison and attempted bringing cellphones into a prison.
Terry is also facing a fourth offense habitual offender sentencing enhancer. He has previous convictions for larceny, breaking and entering, receiving and concealing stolen property and malicious destruction of property.
Bruce’s case was delayed in District Court as she obtained a new attorney.
The two suspects were arrested by the Michigan State Police and the Michigan Department of Corrections on August 13 following a month long investigation into incidents involving drugs and cell phones being smuggled into the Lakeland Correctional Facility.
Court documents state the packages recovered by police contained two smart phones, about 96 grams of marijuana wax, 10 grams of suspected powder heroin and about 30 grams of suspect methamphetamine.
