COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Jackson Northwest spoiled Coldwater’s Homecoming with a narrow 7-6 win at Cardinal Field.
The two teams battled to a scoreless draw in the first half. The Cardinals scored on the first drive of the second half as quarterback Zach Coffing took it in on a 22-yard keeper at the 5:45 mark of the third quarter. They would miss the point-after kick. The Mounties scored on a 41-yard pass from Gabriel Christner to Charles Simpkins with 6:02 left and made the ensuing PAT. Coldwater’s effort to score the game-winner fell short with just over a minute left, as Coffing’s 4th down pass was knocked away in the end zone, allowing Northwest to run out the clock.
The Cardinals fell to 0-7 overall, 0-4 in the Interstate 8, and will host Harper Creek on Senior Night next Friday. The Mounties improved to 4-3 overall, 2-2 in the league, and travel to league-leading Hastings next week.
