COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – No action was taken by the Coldwater City Council on Monday night on a higher bid than the one that was accepted two weeks ago for the city owned building at 71 and 73 West Chicago.
A resolution and sales agreement with Ibrahim and Khalil Abdullah was introduced during the September 25 City Council meeting after their $80,000 offer was the highest of four received by the city.
The property was recently listed with a local realtor. The Abdullahs want to develop the property into a international grocery and Mediterranean restaurant.
Mayor Tom Kramer said near the end of Monday’s meeting that Ryan Kinsey had increased his original offer to relocate a barbershop and put in second floor apartments.
Kinsey’s original bid was $79,900, just $100 less than the Abdullahs. Kramer explained the process if the Council took action but no motion was made.
Under the City Charter, the Abdullahs conveyance has to be tabled for 30 days. Other bids may be received and considered by the City during that time.
Due to the Council’s schedule, the first regularly scheduled meeting after the 30-day time period at which the sale could be formally acted upon would be on November 13.
