Thomas A. Platek, 78, of Quincy, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital in Battle Creek, MI.
In accordance to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, October 21. 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshall with Fr. Craig.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Thomas was born October 3, 1945 in Chicago, IL. to Stanley and Anne (Krueger) Platek. He married Judith A. Yucuis on November 27, 1978, in Markham, IL.
Tom honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a helicopter repairman. Upon returning home, Tom was awarded the Purple Heart and then began his working career as a Chicago Police officer. He and Judy ultimately moved to Michigan where together they owned and operated a convenience store on the North Chain of Lakes in Coldwater.
Tom found his true passion in real estate where he spent most of his career and eventually retired from. He was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshall, the Knights of Columbus in Coldwater, the VFW in Chicago where he served as the Post Commander and was also a member of the NRA.
Thomas held a strong faith in God and the Catholic Church that he instilled upon and used as the foundation in raising his family. He was also an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed fishing and firearms spending countless hours at his local firing range.
Tom always looked forward to a Chicago Cubs or Bears game and liked to travel, but above all else, he truly loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife Judy, Tom is survived by his children David (Bobbie) Adams of Jonesboro, AR, Daniel (Sophean) Adams of Markham, IL, Karen (Richard) Gibson of Dover, AR, Brian Adams of Edon, OH, Robert (Ana) Adams of Marina, CA, Theresa (John) Richardson of Quincy, MI, Mary Platek of Lexington, TN, Virginia Platek of Battle Creek, MI; his 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; his many loving nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Reggie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jimmy Platek.
