COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners brought forward a request from the Sheriff’s Department during Thursday’s work session to hire new two corrections officers to replace two others who will soon be transferring to road patrol deputy duties.
The Corrections Officers who will be switching to the road patrol have finished their Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards pre-employment testing but will not be able to go an academy until January.
County Commissioner Jon Houtz said the Sheriff’s Department wants to hire two new corrections officers prior to January in order to have them trained before the two transfers leave for the academy.
Sheriff John Pollack said in his request they were at 68 percent in their wage line item and the unused funds can be used to cover the two positions.
He added this will save them from working short staffed and would cut the overtime needed in that situation.
