DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Bronson High School graduate Mitchell Klingler won the men’s marathon at the 46th annual Detroit Free Press Marathon on Sunday.
The 31-year-old Klingler finished first in a time of 2:22:51, thus denying Ryan Corby a third straight title.
Klingler now lives in Jackson. He told the Detroit Free Press, “Going to Houston (in January) and not running well wasn’t fun, so I’m like, ‘I want to stay close. I think I have a good chance of winning’ and everything like that … it was actually my main goal and accomplishing it is great.”
Corby was almost three minutes behind Klingler as he finished second while Isaac Waffle of Tekonsha was third with a time of 2:28:28.
After graduating from Bronson, Klinger was a distance runner at Albion College. He ran at the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in 2020.
Kate Landau of Tacoma, Washington won the women’s marathon in a time of 2:50:06.
