QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Union City captured Big 8 Conference boys championship on Tuesday as they finished first in the final conference jamboree of the season which was hosted by Quincy.
The Chargers won the meet with 29 points followed by Bronson in second place with 38 points. Union City finished first for the season with 121 points. The Vikings were second for the season with 138 points. Quincy finished fifth in the meet and in the final standings.
Union City’s Ben Gautsche won Tuesday’s race in a time of 17:00.84. Tyler Wilber was Bronson’s top finisher as he was third. Chayse Jensen led Quincy with an 18th place finish.
Branch County runners dominated the Big 8 All-Conference team. Making the squad from Union City were Gautsche, Cohen Burdick, Cullen Decker and Noah June along with Wilber, Dominic Kiomento, Drew Nortan, Jack Ganton and Kamron Brackett from Bronson.
Concord wrapped up the girls championship as they edged Quincy by one point on Tuesday. The Orioles finished second in the final conference standings. Union City was third and Bronson was fourth in both the race and in the final conference standings.
Bronson’s Ashlynn Harris won Tuesday’s race in a time of 20:03.03 as she wrapped up an undefeated season. Union City’s Alli Gautsche was third while Kendyl Musielewiez of Quincy was fifth.
Harris made the All Conference team along with her teammate Ava Hathaway. Also earning All Conference honors were Gautsche, Musielewiez and Quincy’s Brookelyn Parker and Sadie Miller.
