BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – It was a rough evening on the gridiron for Branch County teams as the 2023 regular season wrapped up last night.
Coldwater concluded its first winless campaign since 2006 as they lost at Parma Western 65-7. The Panthers scored early and often, taking an early 14-0 lead on a couple of one-play drives before the Cardinals could respond. After Dayton Ennis returned an interception to the Western 1-yard line, Zach Coffing found Evan Porter in the end zone from 4 yards out. Coldwater would not score again the rest of the night, as Western racked up 51 unanswered points over the final three quarters while holding the Cardinals to 101 yards of total offense.
Jack Ruden was the leading rusher with 10 carries for 46 yards, Coffing was 3/14 passing for 31 yards, a score, and an interception, and Dayton Ennis had a 23-yard reception. With their twelfth straight loss, Coldwater ends the season at 0-9 overall, 0-6 in the Interstate 8. Western improved to 8-1 overall, 5-1 in the league, and will find out their playoff opponent on Sunday.

Quincy lost to visiting Centreville 64-0. Two interceptions and three fumbles helped the Bulldog cause, along with a 220-23 advantage in net rushing yards.
Noah Pearson paced the Orioles’ ground game with 9 carries for 35 yards, Brennen Allman was 4/7 passing for 77 yards, Alex Barry had a 44-yard reception, and Ethan Copas had 2 catches for 30 yards. Nash Fitton had 6 tackles to lead the defense for Quincy, whose season ends with a 2-7 record.
Union City fell to 6-3 after they were shut out at Buchanan 34-0. The Chargers will find out who they will face in the opening round of the MHSAA Playoffs on Sunday.
Bronson traveled to Kalamazoo and recorded an 18-16 win over Division 1 Loy Norrix. The Vikings finished their season with a 3-6 record.
In 8-player football, Tekonsha wrapped up the season with positive momentum as they edged visiting Burr Oak 24-22. The Indians finish out at 4-5.
