KALAMAZOO, MI. (WTVB) – Union City’s Ben Gautsche set a new school record by over eight seconds as the Charger cross country teams ran at the Kalamazoo Christian Comet Invitational on Saturday morning.
Gautsche, who is a sophomore, had a PR time of 16:29.65 as he finished fourth. The previous record of 16:38 was held since 1990 by Chris Lloyd.
The Union City boys team placed fifth out of 15 teams. Three other Chargers had PR times. Cullen Decker was 32nd followed by Malachi Payne in 40th and Noah June in 50th.
The Union City girls were seventh out of 12 teams. They were led by Alli Gautche, who placed 5th with a new PR time of 20:03. Alissa Skirka placed 26th and Carly Smith placed 61st.
