COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was ordered to serve between two and ten years in the Michigan Department of Corrections on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after he entered a no contest plea to a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation.
61-year-old Robert Lee Greenfield was charged by prosecutors following an investigation by Coldwater Police into a July 5 incident.
As part of a plea bargain agreement that was filed September 14, prosecutors dismissed charges of tampering with evidence and domestic violence as well as a habitual offender sentence enhancer in exchange for his no contest plea.
Greenfield’s sentence will run concurrent to a probation violation case that was filed in June of 2022 in which he was given a prison sentence of two to four years. He was given credit for 257 days already served.
The case filed following the July incident was originally scheduled for a three day trial that would have started on October 31.
