COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council formally passed an ordinance on Monday night that creates a civil infraction for anyone parking a non-electric vehicle in one of the EV charging locations on Chicago Street near the Kerr block and in the Chandler Plaza.
City Attorney Megan Angell says the parking areas for the EV chargers have been clearly marked but some drivers have been parking their non-EV vehicles in those spaces.
Violators would face a $25 fine. The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities recently implemented an electric rate for all of the Level 2 chargers of $2 per hour for the first four hours and $4 per hour for each additional hour.
Coldwater Mayor Tom Kramer said the chargers could be removed in the future.
Council member Emily Rissman cast the only no vote. The ordinance was developed with input from Director of Public Safety Joe Scheid and Deputy Director Pat Beeman.
Maybe they shouldn’t have given them the closest spots to the stores. Afterall, it takes a long, long time to charge one of those things and they just go wait in a bar somewhere. We need the close spots for the disabled and shoppers!
Can you please tell me the location of the 7-11 in coldwater? Thank you
