COLON, MI (WTVB) – Colon Police Chief Mark Brinkert has released more details about a crash early Thursday afternoon in the downtown area which sent two vehicles into the Palmer Lake spillway.
Both of the drivers were from Colon. Brinkert says a 70-year-old woman was heading east on East State Street near South Swan Street at about 12:15 p.m. when her vehicle collided with a vehicle entering the road which was driven by a 76-year-old woman.
The two vehicles went down an embankment and into the spillway after the crash. Bystanders including customers from the Magic Capital Grille restaurant helped get the women out of the water.
Both drivers were treated at the scene by Colon Fire and Rescue. The injuries were reported to be minor. Both were taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital by Life Care Ambulance.
The crash remains under investigation by the Colon Police Department.
