COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two Fort Wayne men were apprehended in Waterloo, Indiana this past Sunday after a pair of recreational travel trailers were stolen from a Coldwater dealership.
The Indiana State Police say the suspects exited southbound I-69 in Indiana and headed west on U.S. 6 before turning into a gas station. Police had earlier been informed about the stolen travel trailers. A State Trooper activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop.
At the same time, Waterloo Deputy Town Marshall Truman Owsley pulled up to assist the Trooper. Several more troopers and officers from multiple local agencies were not far behind.
Both drivers are alleged to have run away from the traffic stop. The first suspect was quickly apprehended in a farm field. The second suspect was located in a wooded area.
Following the apprehensions, a further investigation found that both pickup trucks the men were driving had also been reported stolen in the Fort Wayne area.
Arrangements were made with the dealership in Michigan to have both trailers returned north and both pickup trucks were returned to their respective owners.
27-year- old Robert Baylock and 21-year-old Nicholas Shaneyfelt were transported to the Dekalb County Jail where both were booked on charges of Theft and Resisting Law Enforcement.
Indiana State Police were assisted by the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Department, Auburn PD, Waterloo Town Marshal’s Office, Hamilton PD, Fort Wayne PD and Coldwater PD.
