COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The U.S. 12 Heritage Trail Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently gave Jerry Ford a Community Service Award for his lifetime of service to the Coldwater community.
Chapters may award only two Community Service Awards each year. The award is given to recognize unpaid voluntary community service of individuals, especially during the past five years.
Coldwater Mayor Tom Kramer said in a letter, “Jerry has remained active throughout his life in trying to improve our community, support our Veterans, enhance Coldwater and make this town a better place to be. For many years Jerry was the primary force behind our annual Memorial Day Celebration, something the community looks forward to every year. Jerry led the drive to improve the entrance to our city on the west side and has been involved and supported multiple charitable causes over the years.”
Ford has been instrumental in the War Memorial/Flag Hill/Oak Grove Cemetery project. He has also played taps at Veterans funerals and many other occasions.
Ford did not know he would be receiving the award and commented “I thought that sounded like a lot of things I did”.
