COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As the clean-up continues at the site of the October 16 British Petroleum gasoline pipeline spill in Girard Township, the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency may be asked to help in the collection of water samples from surrounding wells to monitor for possible groundwater impact.
Joe Frazier from Environmental Public Health Services delivered Director Paul Andriacchi’s report to the agency’s Board of Health on Thursday which said state environmental officials have taken charge of the clean-up.
He pointed out how much high technology has helped.
The cause of the gasoline line break that resulted in 8,400 gallons of gasoline being spilled is still not known.
The break happened in the vicinity of Bell Road between Girard and Vincent Lake Roads. The incident prompted immediate response from emergency services and the company’s safety teams.
