COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council gave final approval on Monday night to a renegotiated three year lease with the non-profit Coldwater Community Center, Incorporated after their renovation of the former Putnam Funeral Home in downtown Coldwater.
The building, which is known as the Beech House, is now being utilized as a community center pursuant to an original one year lease with the city.
The group is made up of local citizens and spokesperson Kathy Bappert told the Council on Monday night their renovation work is almost done.
The building had a successful inspection for electrical and plumbing on Monday. Bappert also said they now have a web site at www.coldwaterbeechhouse.org as well as two Facebook pages.
City Manager Keith Baker says the renegotiated three-year lease continues some of the key features of the previous lease with no rent to be paid by the community group in exchange for its continued work and fundraising for the building.
The City would pay the utilities for the first year of the renewed lease but the group would be obligated to pay those utilities for the second two years.
