COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a request to contribute $100,000 from the general fund balance for a proposed fountain and sculpture in the southeast part of the Four Corners Park in downtown Coldwater on Monday night.
It would be a match to the $100,000 that would be sought through private donations and a Patronicity Public Spaces Community Places grant through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
The resolution passed by the City Council also authorized the City to apply for a $50,000 M.E.D.C. grant.
According to City Manager Keith Baker, former City Council Member Maureen Petzko always hoped to have a downtown fountain. Current City Council Member John Petzko established a fund at the Branch County Community Foundation to provide seed funding.
The design of the fountain and sculpture was discussed by the Council. John Petzko has been working with city staff and the City’s landscape designer to come up with a design for the fountain and piece of art.
Council Member Emily Rissman said some community members told her there should be more feedback on the design.
In passing the resolution, the Council agreed to keep the design open in order to get comments from the community.
