Virginia was born on November 9, 1929, in Coldwater. She was the cherished daughter of Donnie and Carolyn Watson. In 1948, she proudly graduated from Coldwater High School, laying the foundation for a life marked by devotion to family and community. On March 12, 1949, Virginia exchanged vows with Robert Corless, embarking on a journey that included raising four children in the close-knit community of Coldwater, Michigan. Following Robert’s retirement, they established their retirement haven in Pine Mountain, Georgia, where they crafted a home filled with love and cherished memories.
Virginia’s professional journey included meaningful contributions to Branch County Social Services, Coldwater Daily Reporter, and her role in hosting New York summer stock actors for Tibbits Theater—an endeavor she and Robert ardently supported. Their passion for the arts, especially the summer stock theater, left an indelible mark on their community.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Virginia was an avid antique collector, a master gardener, and a skilled creator of crochet quilts. Her creative spirit and dedication to these crafts brought joy to those around her for many years.
At the age of 85, Virginia embraced a new chapter, relocating to Tucson, Arizona, for several years before returning to Michigan to reside with her sister Joan Watson in Westland. In July of 2022, she returned to Coldwater, finding comfort in the familiar surroundings of her hometown.
Virginia is survived by her four sons: James (Cheryl) Corless, Donnie (Ginger) Corless, Gerald (Betsey) Corless, and Charles Corless. Her legacy extends to seven grandchildren: Keegan (Leti) Corless, Kendall Corless, Kyle (Aryn) Corless, Kasey (Michelle) Corless, Ashley (Nick) Longstreet, Stacy (Daniel) Knapp, and Troy Corless. Additionally, she leaves behind twelve greatgrandchildren and her sisters Joan Watson and Joyce Harvey.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Corless, as well as her sister Carolyn Syler and brothers Larry, Donald, Howard, and Gerald Watson.
In celebrating Virginia’s life, we remember her warmth, resilience, and the enduring impact she had on those fortunate enough to have known her. May she rest in eternal peace.
In place of floral tributes, we kindly request individuals to consider making a contribution to either the Tibbits Opera House or the Branch County Food Pantry.
