QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Police Department is once again without a K-9 officer.
Police officer and K-9 handler Randi Lemaster recently left the department in order to accept a position with the Eaton County Sheriff’s Department.
Village Manager Brittany Butler said in her report for a Village Council Workshop Meeting two weeks ago that Lemaster decided not to take K-9 Tyson, thus leaving the police department with the dog.
Butler said Magnum K9, which is the trainer the village uses, has found a department willing to purchase Tyson, the equipment Tyson needs and possibly the K-9 car.
The equipment included a Ray Allen Tracking Harness with patches, a K-9 Storm bullet and stab proof vest as well as various leashes.
It’s unlikely the village will resume the K-9 program. The Quincy Village Council approved a request to reinstate a police K-9 unit in late 2020 after there wasn’t one for nearly two-and-a-half years.
