COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man who was facing multiple charges for failure to comply with the State of Michigan’s sex offender registration laws was sent to prison on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
43-year-old Travis Leon Howard-Kinsey was order to serve 17 months to 10 years for violating his probation in a pair of 2020 cases. He was credited with 621 days already served.
Kinsey was also given a sentence of 17 months to four years for failure to comply with the sex offender registration act and a concurrent sentence of 16 months to two years for not complying with reporting duties. He entered no contest pleas to those counts. Two other charges in the case were dismissed by prosecutors in exchange for the pleas.
Kinsey was arrested in July following a Michigan State Police investigation.
According to court documents, Kinsey absconded from supervision last February and did not report to the probation office. Court records went on to say he has not made any attempt to update his address or complete a report in compliance with his sex offender registration duties since October of 2022.
Kinsey was placed on probation for five years and given a one year jail sentence in March of 2020 after he entered no contest pleas to charges of attempted second degree criminal sexual conduct and assault with intent to commit sexual penetration. Authorities say the incidents involving an underage girl went back to 2008.
