COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater City Planner Jake VanBoxel presented results during Monday’s Planning Commission meeting from an online survey Coldwater residents recently took. The survey was conducted in order to get feedback for the City’s 2024 through 2029 Recreation Plan.
Citizens over the age of 18 provided feedback for future additions and improvements to the city’s dozen parks.
Respondents were asked questions about how often they visited the parks and how satisfied they are with the current maintenance of public parks and recreation facilities in Coldwater.
VanBoxel said the goals and objectives have to be submitted to the Michigan D.N.R. by February 1.
City Manager Keith Baker said they are not trying to re-invent the wheel.
With goals and objectives in place, City staff have developed a five-year action program that included 15 potential projects.
VanBoxel said he will take input from the Planning Commission and bring back an updated document next month. A public hearing will take place during the January 22 City Council meeting.
In other business, the Planning Commission approved a Special Use Permit for proposed commercial mini-storage facilities at 695 West Chicago next to Rotary Park. Petitioners Justin and Eileen Sweet of Sturgis want to expand their facilities at the two acre parcel.
The development is an addition to the storage unit facilities that are already located on the property. The Sweets want to add six mini storage buildings. They also want to install a partial fence and a paved driveway.
